Sacred Heart Consecration: Day 10

Heart of Jesus, Full of Goodness and Love

In this lesson, Annabelle Moseley, poet; author; and Professor of Theology, leads Day 10 of the 33-Day “Our House of the Sacred Heart” Consecration and teaches “The Lesson of the Queen Anne’s Lace” as a real-life example of waiting. Beautiful prayers, devotions, art, stories, scripture and poetry are included in this podcast that won’t take much of your time… but is time well-spent.

Reflection on Art

In the image, Mary holds Baby Jesus close to her heart. In the foreground is a field of Queen Anne’s Lace. Strong and supportive St. Joseph is walking behind them, protecting them from marauders that may try to take them by surprise. This art teaches, without words, about virtues we should strive for in order to make ours a holier family.

Questions of the Day

  • Who in your life comes to mind as being particularly full of goodness and love? How have they influenced you?
  • As you think back, what event(s) in your past may have been pointing to something you were perhaps being prepared for in your future?
  • Among childhood memories, what highlights a trait you or a loved one possess, such as goodness or love?

Today’s Challenge

Even Mary and Jesus were influenced on their journey by the love and goodness of those close to them. Its a good day today to be grateful for those who have lovingly formed us. Let’s pray to the Sacred Heart today in gratitude for those good and loving souls.

My mother was my greatest consolation after my father passed away. Although her grief was as painful as mine (probably even more so), she decided that we were not going to wear black anymore. I knew from an early age, my father would never want to see my mother or I in black clothes. I knew this decision was hard for her because her heart was breaking and the thought of bright colors felt like a knife to her heart. Although it hurt I followed my mother’s example and stayed in her loving embrace of always loving my father and doing what would put a smile on his face. I pushed back the sorrow and tears and followed my mom’s example of turning to God and Mother Mary as we attended Mass. She would always say “Honey, go light a candle by the Blessed Mother.” In many ways that has always carried me through the sad and painful times in my life. I always feel consolation when I turn to Mother Mary, just as I had experienced in my life the consolation of turning toward my beloved mother before she went home to be with my beloved father in heaven.

you make an excellent point Professor Moseley in reminding us to thank those close to us family members, friends, neighbors or whoever motivated and supported us to set a goal and reach it. For me it was my mom and dad that encouraged both my loving sister and myself to become registered nurses way back in the sixties. This of course was way before you were born yet you are a young wise person who really demonstrates a beauty and appreciation for all ages on the continuum. Most people your age may not know Kate Smith or Perry Como. My mother always wanted to become a nurse. In truth, she was one who had great compassion and always helped those in need. Thank you mom, dad and Patty. I know you are all with God and I miss you everyday. I was not familiar with Anne’s Lace so I looked it up. I was not surprised to see that is was used for medicinal reasons since I am a medical professional but when I read on the commentary said it grows like a wild flower and the seeds spread growing more beautiful flowers. When I share my Catholic Christianity with others by being kind, caring and patient may the beautiful artwork of Blessed Mary, Jesus and St.Joseph remind me of all the goodness around us. Mostly may I spread the seeds of faith and love. So that like the flower field to Egypt grew so may our family in the church grow with Christ as its Head.
